The UK Newspaper 'Weekend i' has published this on 4th September, 2021.

They seem to have the date wrong anyway but isn't the 'go back to driving a truck' remark apocryphal ?

I think Denny made the statement or that remark or if he didn't then Elvis at least said he did. It was in an interview but which one off hand I'm unsure.
I was thinking more along the lines of it was wrong for Denny to say it as it inferred Elvis had stopped driving a truck, but he was still working for Crown, wasn't he?

According to Ernst [in his book] Elvis mentioned he'd like to do country music & Denny said something along the lines of:

"Best stick with what you're doing as it seems to be successful !"

That Bond guy that also turned down Elvis, could he have said it and Elvis later confused the two rejections?
