'Elvis In Texas' by Stanley Oberst wrote:      When Elvis melted the Lubbock auditorium stage that night, Slim Willet - singer, songwriter of the Perrry Como croon, "Don't Let The Stars Get In your Eyes," and Abilene DJ - watched from backstage. After observing in amusement the extreme audience reaction to the newcomer, Willet called his fellow DJ friend Sid Foster in Breckenbridge. Sid my man, you've got to see this guy, no kidding. And my advice to you is don't bring a date if you want to keep her.
Intrigued, Sid Foster graced the audience at Fair Park Auditorium in Abilene for the February 15 concert. The other performers excelled as usual, but when Elvis walked onto the stage, electricity flashed through the crowd, as if all the others had just been a warm-up. The singer, decked in brazen pink and black, opened his mouth as if he were about to sing but changed his mind and flashed a devilish grin. Next to Sid, a young girl keeled overina dead faint on the floor. Sid thought to himself, oh man, I need to get this guy to Breckenbridge.
After the show Sid searched backstage for Elvis, spotting him exiting the back door. As the cool night air rushed in, Sid tried to capture the attention of the man, but something more powerful held Elvis enthralled; a mighty hoard of trembling prepubescents rushed the entertainer. Panicking, Elvis fled to a nearby telephone booth and barricaded the door. Throbbing with hormones, the girls trapped him inside. When it became apparent that they weren't going to leave, Elvis bravely decided to face his peril, Cautiously he slid open the door and instructed all the girls to form a cadet line. After they came to attention, he signed their autographs and kissed each one in turn. Just when the first recruits darted to the end of the line for a second helping, his getaway car pulled up. Elvis jumped in and made his escape.
Unobserved, Sid Foster bust a gut laughing at the spectacle. Oh yeah, he definitely had to get this kid to Breckenbridge.
