Little Richard - Long Tall Sally (1956)
Little Richard - Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey! (1958)
The Beatles would record the two Little Richard records in 1964.
"Hey, Hey,Hey,Hey" performed in medley with "Kansas City".
Interestingly, while "Long Tall Sally" appeared on EP for most countries, except Canada where it would in fact merit
title of an LP

Re: Original songs later recorded by The Beatles
Good one TCB-Fan.
I've added Buck Owens on my prior list now.
I can't believe i did not think of that one earlier
I'll be dropping a line to Trevor Churchill Ace Records a line in order to see if the label might consider a few "Original Records Later Recorded By..." and not only Beatles, but Elvis, Rolling Stones volumes.
When it comes to reissues compilations ACE are the Best !

Re: Original songs later recorded by The Beatles
Maggie Mae - A 38-second ad-lib recorded between takes of ‘Two Of Us’, recorded on 24 January 1969 ‘Maggie Mae’ was taped during the Let It Be album sessions.
A traditional Liverpool folk song about a prostitute who robbed a sailor, ‘Maggie May’ (as it is more commonly known) is believed to date from the early 19th century.
(from "The Beatles Bible")
https://www.beatlesbible.com/songs/maggie-mae/
"Oh, dirty Maggie Mae they have taken her away
And she'll never walk down Lime Street anymore
Oh, the judge, he guilty found her
For robbin' the homeward bounder
That dirty, no good, robbin' Maggie Mae
'Tis the port of Liverpool
They returned me to
Two pounds ten a week, that was my pay. "
Maggie Mae was a folk song public domain, so the question is who really did inspire the Quarrymen (pre-Beatles) and The Beatles spontaneous 1969 take ?
Looking at wikipedia, there was folk and skiffle singer A.L. Lloyd had the first known commercial record in 1956 (note: how different the lyrics!):
A.L. Lloyd - Maggie Mae (1956)
To my ears it's got to be the next record by The Vipers Skiffle Group
The Vipers Skiffle Group - Maggie Mae (1957)

Re: Original songs later recorded by The Beatles
So, despite the title thread, in cases like "Maggie Mae" "That's All Right" and "Lend Me Your Comb" , it's best to make exceptions to the rules, go with the recordings that actually inspired The Fab Four.
