The following is a quote I've had for about 15 years but I can't recall the source. It only matters in that it quotes a different photographer than Jim Reid. I've included it so whichever one of the two it was gets the mention.
The following alternate photo was first used in an article on 8th September 1954 and again on 29th December 1954 in the Memphis Press-Scimitar:Elvis had lunch with Marion Keisker and Edwin Howard at the Memphis Press-Scimitar to promote his record.
Marion phoned Edwin Howard to arrange a meeting.
Howard recalled the content of the conversation:
They would have to come in on the boy's lunch hour, Marion said, because he was still driving a truck for Crown Electric Company. I said I'd be glad to see them, and shortly after noon they got off the elevator on the fifth floor of the Press-Scimitar and came over to my desk. The boy's hair looked like it had been cut with a lawn mower, but the trademarks were already there - flat top, duck tail and sideburns. He was shy and, except for 'Yes sir' and 'No sir' let Marion do all the talking.
And here's a picture many of you have seen before but it's never associated with the correct date. Well it was today and was taken by one of the staff photographers, Jeff McAdory.
