Re: 9th September 1956, Sunday
Elvis appears on the Ed sullivan Show for the first time.
Neither Elvis or Ed Sullivan were in the New York CBS studios that day for filming. A month before Elvis' appearance on his show, Ed suffered from an almost fatal automobile crash that left him hospitalized for weeks and was unable to recover from his injuries quick enough. British actor Charles Laughton filled in and served as host for Presley’s debut performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Elvis himself wasn't in New York City, where "The Ed Sullivan Show" was filmed, and was seen from Hollywood where he was in the middle of filming "Love Me Tender."
The show was a huge success! 60 million people, or 82.6 percent of the entire television audience, watched Elvis perform "Don't Be Cruel," "Love Me Tender," "Ready Teddy" and a few verses of "Hound Dog." "Love Me Tender" had not yet been released, so fans ate up the new single - which only increased the hype for the new movie and its soundtrack.
Back and forth and back again - photos originally posted here but then believed to be from a rehearsal yesterday on the 8th are very likely to be from a rehearsal today including pre show meet and greet with selected fans.

Re: 9th September 1956, Sunday
Elvis said :"Thanks Mister Laughton..."
So why is the make up artist and Elvis photo on Sept. 8 ? Elvis is wearing the same shirt.

There is currently a debate over which date [8th or 9th] the photos belong.Private Presley wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 1:50 am...So why is the make up artist and Elvis photo on Sept. 8 ?
Elvis is wearing the same shirt...

Thanks PP, quote removed.
I'd say the make-up ones are from the 9th as why would they spend time making up for a rehearsal?Private Presley wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 1:50 amSo why is the make up artist and Elvis photo on Sept. 8 ? Elvis is wearing the same shirt.

Re: 9th September 1956, Sunday
I'd already moved my 'make up' one to the 8th on account of that shirt !
I wonder if we'll ever solve which photos belong on which date for certain ?

Re: 9th September 1956, Sunday
IF, and only if, there was one rehearsal on the 8th and just the broadcast on the 9th then we can be fairly sure.
I've moved the photos to the 8th because other than two photos they must be from a rehearsal and are definitely not from the broadcast.
There could have been a dress rehearsal on the 9th and that might be why Elvis is wearing the jacket in two of the photos.
In the broadcast Scotty, Bill and DJ wear bow ties (they're not in the photos.)
The Jordanaires and Elvis wear jackets in the broadcast (other than two photos of Elvis, they're not in the other photos)
